Ọmọlúàbí

A person of good character, shaped by community, not by classroom. That is the standard we hold ourselves to, and the reason we exist.

In Yoruba tradition, an Ọmọlúàbí is someone whose good character was built through the community around them, honesty, respect, accountability, care for others, learned by living among people, not taught from a distance.

We believe the same is true for the work we do. Help should come from people who have lived the problem, not people who have only studied it. Too many programmes for young people are built by people who left their community years ago, or never lived in one like it.

SGWI is different because the people running it are still close to the problem.

We built this because we saw what was missing, and refused to wait for someone else to fix it.

WHERE WE CAME FROM

A few young people got tired of watching friends fall through the cracks. So they stopped watching.

In 2021, a small group of young Nigerians looked at their own communities and saw what nobody else was fixing: teenagers with no one to talk to, survivors with nowhere safe to go, young people with big ideas and no seat at the table. So they built the table. SGWI started small and stayed relentless. Today it’s a youth-led team running three live programmes, backed by real partners, already reaching over 2,000 people.
